Our Community
Our Preschool fosters the development of community among parents. As a not-for-profit cooperative, we are run by a dedicated Council made up of parent volunteers. This model allows us to provide high quality care and education for the children at lower cost, but is dependent on all parents’ active support. It also means we form a much closer community. Throughout the year, we organise seasonal activities, jobs and get togethers, such as family picnics or working bees, to encourage parents to meet other families and support the preschool.
Parent Council
Our Parent Council is made up of annually elected parent volunteers with diverse talent and background. The Council is responsible for the governance of the preschool. This involves partnering with the Centre staff to determine the preschool’s future directions, goals, and priorities, set budgets and policies, and ensure compliance with statutory regulations.
The Council supports the management aspect of the preschool, with other tasks such as:
Fundraising.
Assisting with staffing.
Overseeing enrolment/ waiting list.
The Council members meet once a month. Each family is welcomed and encouraged to have a parent representative on the Preschool Council, volunteer their services for a project, or occasionally attend one of the meetings to get a better understanding of the Preschool’s current affairs.
Note: Our Preschool can only operate with the fees at their current level because of the significant amount of work that is undertaken by the Council which would in most organisations be done by paid staff.
